Much in what he says …

  1. Hi Frank, I feel there are some differences between the two groups, even though I agree that both have come to see things through a highly racialised prism. And it is also true that a lot of poor whites expressed their support for Trump not because of race but because he promised economic policies that they believed would ameliorate the effects of globalisation on their livelihoods. But beyond this, there is some truth to the fact that the SJWs, even when they overdo their zealousness by, say, critiquing every culture product over how white it is, are ultimately fighting for equality for a group that has traditionally not had it. If you scroll down on Brendon's post, you will see a comment by Kim Phelps, and I think she makes an important point.

  2. I'm not so sure, Vikram. That certain groups have been unfairly treated in the past is no doubt true. And I have myself always worked against that, including back in the day when it was anything but fashionable. The SJWs strike me as being full of themselves and wanting privileges for themselves that they would deny others. I don't have to agree with everyone and I don't want to think like everyone. Protesting speakers whose views you do not share is fine if you do it peacefully, though it doesn't say much for your intellectual capacity. And as I've said before, if you push long enough and hard enough against the majority, that majority is likely to start pushing back. And the thing about majorities is that there are more of them. As someone who opposes the death penalty for the simple reason that it is wrong to kill people, I don't need to be told that black lives matter. All lives matter, and if that view offends someone, too bad. (I could not find Kim's comment.)

  4. Here it is:

Kim Phelps I learned a new thing today "SJW". Had to look it up. To compare these two groups is ignorant. One espouses hate and bigotry and uses nazi propaganda to further their message. The other is not asking for "validation" but equality. An educated, black man or woman or anyone of color has a different reality in society. When they get pulled over for a ticket or walk down the street, they are looked at and treated differently. I'm not talking about gang members, or trouble makers, I'm taking about real, honest hard-working people who get treated differently because of societal biases. I respect and depend on police and law abiding citizens. Anyone who follows the rule of law, should expect to be treated equally. Women get sexually harassed on a daily basis, and that is considered the norm. Boys will be boys. I respectfully disagree with your points.

  5. There's something so condescending and aloof about calling someone an SJW, who just wants their black children and grandchildren to live as long and without the bigotry that comes with their everyday life in this country. So the writer is distancing himself from a well-considered assessment of these social situations from the get-go.

My response, which has garnered a sub-discussion is here: https://www.facebook.com/brendan.oneill.79/posts/1450097131747042?comment_id=1450719195018169&comment_tracking=%7B%22tn%22%3A%22R%22%7D
